An Update from Yours Truly

by Bear Elle

It's June! I hope everyone is well and feeling the love. Summer is just around the corner and even though I'm about to post a video showing how I fit my studio and office into my closet bedroom, it was time to move back into the garage and this time I took the office too.

Going to Work

With all the new exciting things happening within my business, it's starting to really hit me that it's time to start getting my ducks in a row. Besides the obvious, like setting up some accounting software and getting a business bank account and a PO Box, my moving everything into a separate space than the one I sleep in is symbolic and meant to set up my day in a little more formal manner. I've also downloaded a time clock app.

My goal with all this is to treat my work as a more formal entity and prepare myself for the growth coming. Spending my day "at the office" and only going "home" for lunch and at the end of the day to rest.

Give Yourself Permission

One of the next things I want to post about is the idea that you have to give yourself permission. For me this means really realizing that there isn't anyone who will give me the ok. That person is me.

I think we often forget how much power we have as we grow up. We've been conditioned to forget that we can create and decide in our own minds and instead seek authority of some sort to tell us it's our time or that it's ok.

One of the biggest game changers of my life was taking everything into my hands. I definitely didn't decide this all in one day. It was a slow process of disappointment and different layers of expectations.

I know I sound like a broke record about this, but it's important to start where you are. Everyone is on a different journey, going a different pace. It's pointless to base yours off anyone else's.

Big Boss Lady

I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't give myself permission. No one would have made me, no one would have held my hand about it.

I don't want this message to be misunderstood. Many, many people helped me and supported me so far on my journey. I'm beyond grateful to each and every one of them. All I mean is that if I quit, they would have been there for me then as well. So in terms of my artistic success, no one has held me accountable, but me.

After All, It's 2021

The days of the gatekeepers have died. There are very few cases where any form of authority is required to give you permission to do something.

You no longer need permission to gain knowledge. You have Google and YouTube on your person at all times, along with a wide variety of apps, products, and websites to learn literally anything you an imagine.

You no longer need help reaching the people. You have social media, which means you can get your message to the masses for free.

You have the tools in your pocket. The world is giving you permission.
